YOU MUST VISIT THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE FOR THE FOLLOWING:
RESTORE SLIPS:
Restore slips are no longer issued. Students must have a note from a legal parent/guardian stating the reason for the absence, the students name ID number and division, the date (s) of the absence and a parent/guardian signature and phone contact number. All notes must be signed by parent/guardian
All notes will be verified and the absence will be changed from unexcused to excused on the students permanent electronic attendance record in SIM / IMPACT.
TARDY TO SCHOOL:
FAMILY VACATIONS:
Families are strongly encouraged to schedule vacations during the regular school breaks. Students cannot receive an excused absence due to family vacations.
CLASS CUTS:
Any unauthorized absence from class is a cut. Cutting one class in a day will result in the student being marked with ½ day attendance. Cutting four or more classes will result in the student being marked absent for the entire day. These are the rules of the Chicago Board of Education and the Illinois State Board of Education.
Students who attend regularly and demonstrate great attendance are likely to earn better grades. Students will be required to make up Instructional Class time resulting in class cuts serving an hour detention after school. Failure to serve will result in further disciplinary actions.
POOR ATTENDANCE OR POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE:
Students with poor attendance, chronic absences, excessive cuts or tardiness will be required to have a parent conference and sign a “Performance Contract”. Attendance verification will be required until the student corrects the problem. Failure to comply with the contract requirements will result in additional parent conferences.
Excellent Attendance = Excellent Grades.
STUDENT I.D.’s:
Permanent I.D.’s are issued in the Attendance Office. The initial permanent I.D charge is included in the student’s yearly fee. Replacement I.D’s are issued at a cost of $7.00 each. Student I.D.’s are to be worn at all times. Students may receive temporary I.D’s upon entry into the building at a cost of 1.25¢ from the security desk if they have forgotten their permanent I.D. However, temporary ID’s will be issued after 2nd period at the security desk located in the main entrance. Only five (5) temporary ID’s will be issued before a parent conference is scheduled.
EARLY DISMISSALS:
Early dismissals are strongly discouraged. Families are asked to schedule appointments after school has been dismissed for the day or on the weekend. In the event of an emergency, early dismissals are issued in the Attendance Office. A legal parent/guardian must be notified by phone and personally pick up the student. Students eighteen years of age may obtain an early dismissal from the Attendance Office for illness, or family emergencies with the permission of a legal parent/guardian. Attendance will be checked if students are requesting early dismissals. Early dismissals will not be issued if the attendance is not within the guidelines of Area 26 and Foreman High School.
LUNCH APPLICATIONS:
All students must have a lunch application on file in the attendance office. Applications are available in the attendance office during regular school hours. If your parent chooses not to participate, they must return the form signed, dated and marked as refused.
PARENT / GUARDIAN:
All parent / guardians must present a picture ID when entering the building. No parent will be seen in the attendance office without their picture ID.
Only legal guardians may discuss or receive student information contained on the student’s records. Parents or guardians not listed on the IMPACT system will not be permitted to sign for early dismissals and they will not be given student data. Students will not be pulled out of class to surrender keys, electronic devices or other items. Classes cannot be interrupted for this purpose.
SENIOR STUDENTS:
All seniors must meet Area 26 Attendance requirements along with CPS High School and all Foreman High School requirements. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the loss of senior privileges including walking across the stage at the Graduation Ceremony at the discretion of the school Principal.
BALLOONS:
Helium balloons are not permitted in the school halls or classrooms. Students who bring Helium balloons will have them taken away and held until the close of school. Students will be permitted to pick up the balloons and take them home when school is dismissed.
